White Cane Week 2006
| Here is the congratulatory letter to Team Kelona from Gordon Campbell, Premier of British Columbia: British Columbia February 22, 2006 Dean Martell, Skip Kelowna Blind Curling Team c/o Canadian Council of the Blind 396 Cooper Street, Suite 401 Ottawa, ON K2P 2H7 Dear Mr. Martell: As Premier of British Columbia, I would like to commend you and your team-mates Sandy Keddow, Frank Costello, Bob Comba, and Janet Dyck, on winning your second straight title at the 2006 White Cane Week National Blind Curling Bonspiel, in Ottawa. White Cane Week began 60 years ago as a national campaign to raise awareness about blindness, prevention, and rehabilitation. Over the years, it has also come to be recognized as a week of acknowledgement, showcasing the abilities and accomplishments of blind and vision impaired Canadians. In successfully defending your title at the National Blind Curling Bonspiel, your team has truly demonstrated that your abilities and determination far outweigh your disabilities. Once again, congratulations on your team's victory in Ottawa, and I wish you all the best as you look forward to competing in next year's championship. Sincerely, Gordon Campbell Province of British Columbia Office of the Premier White Cane Week Magazine |
