Skills and Training
Objectives
The focus of the CCB is on CAPABILITY and not disability. The purpose of this program is to establish financial independence and thus individual empowerment for CCB members.
The advent and continuous improvement in computer technology means unprecedented access for the blind and visually impaired in the work force.
Training leads to the acquisition of skills and can translate to employment (T+S=E). However, it must be emphasized that the program does not preclude members who simply want to attain skills to improve their daily lives and employment is not necessarily the ultimate objective.
Program
This program offers three components for members:
A. Training
-
To identify existing programs that offer training particularly in relation to computer skills
-
To identify locations for these programs where members may attend
-
To identify financial assistance that may be offered including potential assistance from the CCB
B. Skills
-
To ensure as much as possible that the training offered matches the interests of the member
-
To identify within the marketplace those particular skills when acquired that offer the most likelihood of employment
C. Employment
-
To identify specific companies, which may utilize these new skills acquired by the member
-
To actively assist the member in the process to obtain and to conclude gainful employment
