Programs

At one of the most significant directors’ meetings in CCB history, on January 20, 2005 the board approved unanimously a comprehensive list of programs that in effect will fulfill the original mandate of the CCB established by its incorporation in 1950.

While the CCB had in place some of these programs at one time or another, and in one form or another, never before has the CCB established such a co-ordinated and detailed list.

The programs include chapter financial assistance for 2006 to allow our chapters to grow and plan activities within their community; a bursary program for secondary and post-secondary education; an infant vision impairment data based program to record data and identify blind and visually impaired infants; a legal assistance program available to all members across Canada who require legal advice; a Peer Support program to provide emotional support to those with vision loss; a sports and recreation program for elite as well as ordinary members, from competitive sports to social functions at the chapter and national level; a continuance and expansion of the advocacy and blind awareness campaigns presently run by national; and finally, a skills and training program for members to compete for jobs in the market place.

Aside from fulfilling its original purpose, these programs are designed to appeal to the needs of present members, attract new ones and show our donors and the general public that the CCB is at the forefront of the causes of the blind and visually impaired community and aggressively pursuing their interests.

With the adoption of all of these programs, our hope is that there is a program or activity that the CCB can offer to each and every member and reach out to new members. The CCB is your organization. It exists to make your life better and serve your needs and aspirations.
