Chapters and Clubs

Formation of New Chapters and Clubs

Within our Divisions, the CNIB District Administration Office (as the service provider) is often the first contact for a newly blind or vision impaired individual.

Therefore, the CNIB's District Offices historically have been charged with, and accepted, the responsibility for offering these individuals an introduction to the CCB and to alerting the local Chapters/Clubs of the existence of a potential member.

They also have information on the number of individuals who are blind and vision impaired and where these individuals are located within a given area. Consequently, the CNIB could be most helpful in assessing the potential and/or possibility of establishing a CCB Chapter/club or Sub-Chapter/Clubs within a region where a CCB Chapter/Club does not exist.

In considering the establishment of a new Chapter/Club it is essential that the following points be kept in mind:

a. Availability of sound and stable leadership who, once the character of the Chapter/Club has been established, will be better able to address and deal with the problems that will arise.

b. Potential compatibility of the initial group.

c. Development plan formulated.

d. Chapter/Club's objectives identified and plan of action agreed upon.

e. That the likelihood that social/recreational or advocacy activities will be beneficial to the Chapter/Club's membership.

It is recommended that "founding members" consider arranging for one or two functions to which potential members can be invited thus allowing them to become acquainted and gradually developing the desire for continuing association before the actual Chapter/Club organization is formally proposed.

It is recommended that not more than one Chapter/Club's nucleus be organized at one time in any given area. However, the idea can be cultivated for future development once interest becomes concrete and sufficient numbers of suitable members appear to be available.

It is recommended "as part of a Chapters/Club Development Plan" that there be full and frank consultation between the potential Chapter/Club and the Division representative. (Thus ensuring complete understanding, agreement and cooperation in all activities.)

It is most important that the Division Office be recognized by the new group and hence, the new Chapters/Clubs look to the Division Office as its official advisor.

A healthy CCB organization within any Division can be of great benefit to its members, an inspiration to sighted friends and the general sighted public.
